1998 Honda VT1100C ... Shadow Spirit 1100

In 2000 when we decided that we wanted a pair of road bikes to play on, we scoured the want ads for used bikes.  We found this Honda Shadow Spirit (Honda's official moniker was the VT1100C) at a Ducati dealer in Watertown.

It was early August and the asking price was below book.  After very short negotiations, we got it for close to $2000 below the book price.  In all resects, this was a very nice bike.  It had nice lines, a sharp paint scheme (Harley racing colors!), a great sound, handled and performed very nicely, was quite comfortable to ride and only had 1500 miles on it when I bought it.

Ironically, I rode it for only a month and put about 1000 miles on it when I decided that I wanted a touring bike.  At the time, I stated that I had a frame mounted fairing on my motorcycle when I was 25.  Now that I was almost double that, I wanted that comfort again.  I sold it less than eight months later and because I sold it in the spring, I actually made money on it and still sold it for under book.

This bike was a 1099 cc liquid cooled 45 degree V-twin with a 5 speed transmission.  This picture of it is the only one I took when I owned it.  We took a day trip along the St. Lawrence and the western end of Lake Ontario looking at lighthouses.  The backrest and saddlebags were on it when I bought it.  I added the Memphis Fats windshield (MEM3410) with mounting hardware (MEM9909).  It also had some sharp directional light trim on it which I transferred to the VLX when this was sold.
