Gavin Michael Schryver ... Baptism

Gavin Michael was baptized by the Reverend Father Doug Lucia at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton on January 24, 2009.  David and Miranda's good friends, Ron and Brandi Romano were Godparents.  Ron was also their best man.

It was a special service for the baptism rather than being part of a Mass.  A number of Gavin's family and friends attended.  He wore an outfit made by his Grandma Hale and a baptismal blanket was used that has been part of the baptisms of several generations of David's family for many years.  David was baptized in this blanket, as were his two sisters.  This blanket was used in the baptisms of his mother and all of her siblings and his Grandmother Davis and all of her siblings.  The tradition was started by his great-grandmother Hurley over 70 years ago.  All of her children and almost all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been baptized in this blanket.  The blanket is circulated between family members.  After one child is baptized, it is stored until the next child is ready for it.

Following the service, everyone went to Gavin's house for a get-together, including refreshments, presents and a cake made just for the occasion.
