The first email came from Mike on December 14, 2016. His FG-360 is the 44th, 5-digit Japanese model we know of and number 66 overall. To this point, it is the oldest 5-digit Japanese model in our records.
David,
Thanks for your interesting site regarding the FG360. Very informative! Here’s mine: bought new in 1974 in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. A bit played-n after all these years but still sounds fine. Serial looks to be 30424 - made in Japan - “K” label. Rosewood fingerboard, tuning-fork headstock logo only (no Yamaha lettering). Close up of the soundhole seems to reveal laminated top as expected. Please add this one to your database. Regards Mike Brooks Our thanks to Mike for contacting us. As a point of interest, this guitar is the oldest 5-digit Japanese model that we now know of. We believe this to represent the point at which they started exporting to the USA. This guitar points out that they must have shipped it world-wide.
