I was first contacted by Ed on November 23, 2018. This FG-360
would be the 67th Japanese model that we know of and number 103
overall. Happy Post-Thanksgiving David: Enjoyed your notes/research on the FG 360. I purchased mine about 10 years ago in Houston, Texas. I was on a business trip for software training and was killing time in the evenings looking at Craigslist ads and visiting some pawn shops. I purchased the Yamaha off the widow of the original owner. It came in a what appears to be what appears to be an old, possibly original case. It included the original sales tag on a string that must have hung on a tuner and stated $379 dollars I recall. Quite a sum for that era I thought. I picked this guitar over a Martin 000-28 I found at a local pawn shop. Wish I would have bought both. I loosened the strings and carried it on board my return flight to Pittsburgh. My guitar has a tan label, “Nippon Gakki CO., LTD, Made In Japan” and ink stamped letters “NK” on the bracing, just under the tan, rectangular label. I’ll send pictures. Serial number is 31108. I own a couple other vintage acoustic Yamaha’s (SJ 180 & FG 75-1), three Martins, a Sigma and a Taylor. The other Yamaha’s and the Sigma have laminated tops but the FG 360 definitely appears to have a solid top like my Martins and others (regardless of not having an “S” designation on the label after the FG 360). Keep me posted as to the ongoing dialogue and Happy Holidays to you and yours! Edward F. Valentas Our thanks to Ed for contacting us.
