I was first contacted by Gary on April 16, 2017. This FG-360 is the 6th, non-USA model we know of and number 72 overall. Howdy David. My name is Gary Perez and I hail from Montreal, Quebec in Canada. I saw your page while searching for general information about these very good sounding guitars. The serial number is 3030 6396 and the center strip has the letter k marked on it just below the Nippon gakki label. Therefore I guess it may have been made in 1973. This guitar appeared in a tiny advertisement arising out of an estate sale and the man who inherited it sold it to me for 200 Canadian dollars including the case. The guitar is made entirely out of solid tonewood. The top is made of spruce, the sides, back, and neck are made out of mahogany(kayah, otherwise known as African mahogany) . Unfortunately at the time of purchase the guitar top was horribly deflected by the tension of the strings during long years of improper storage. However I could not resist buying it all the same. I'm glad I did because I spent the next two days fabricating specialty tools to enable me to remove the old bridge, remove and replace the bridgeplate, press and restore the the proper relationship between the height of the nut and saddle, and make and install a new rosewood bridge. By the time the saddle was in place and compensated, a week had passed. It was well worth the effort because this guitar has a rich and pleasant sound, a bit more towards the low end. Very full, very loud if you need it. It is over 8 years since that little odyssey and the top still holds flat with 12 to 54 's on it. Let me thank you for sharing your experience with Yamaha acoustic guitars. They prove to be great sounding instruments. Keep well and carry on.... Our thanks to Gary for contacting us.
