I was first contacted by Jim on November 12, 2015. He has written
again three times, the most recent on December 3, 2024.
Despite all of these contacts, although his serial number made it
into my data base, his story never got on the website. Here it
is ...
It is a wonderful instrument. The tone improves
every year. Retired now and finally focusing on my
music...thanks for all your info.
Mine has 40119(or18) stamped. Also, I see what looks like 68 written at the bottom. Could this be the NK I've heard about. I won this guitar on KIOA radio, Des Moines, call in contest in, maybe, 1974. Could never part with it. Please let me know what you learn from these pics. Thanks. I won this in ‘74 from a radio “named that tune in three notes” contest. It was a contest promoting Yamaha. At the time, I was told it was one of 100 Guitars made in Japan and shipped to the U.S. for radio stations to use in promoting the “new” Yamaha guitar. On the inside of the body at the very back is the number 68 in handwriting. I’ll try and get better info on the serial number tomorrow. First two are 40… The third is 1 or 7. Last two may be 19. I’ve never been able to part with it. Sounds better than both of my Martins. The pegs were brass, I think, I had to replace them years ago when they started breaking down. I would love to contact Yamaha and replace what is on there now. I did notice the Dylan photo during his Pancake tour. This guitar sounds better and better as time passes. Our thanks to Jim for contacting us.
