I was first contacted by
Nick on September 18, 2020. This FG-360 would be the 16th
Japanese model
not built for export to the US that we know of
and number 134 overall. Hey David, I own an FG-360 and came across your site while looking for info on it. I have what looks to be one of the Japan-made Nippon Gakki tan label models with an 8 digit serial number. The serial number is very faded. I'm 99% sure the last 6 digits are 315293. There appear to be 2 digits (or markings at least) in front, but I can't make them out. If I had to stab in the dark, I'd guess them to be 0, 8, or 3, based on rounded shape, not at all respectively. It's in pretty good shape for its age, but has some dings and scratches and the action is a bit high at the bridge end. I have an appointment at the end of the month with a local luthier here in Tacoma, WA, who specializes in vintage repair and setup, so I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts and having it professionally set up. It resonates very well with great sustain as it is now. I know the jury is out on whether these were solid or laminated tops. I'm no expert, but like others have said, when looking at the grain at the sound hole, it sure looks to be a solid top. I've included several pictures. I took some of the inside while looking for any additional markings. I didn't find any but I'll include them as well since they illustrate the bracing and construction of the body. This guitar was a Craigslist find several years ago and I think I paid about $150 for it. I remember finding your site at that time as well. I'm a novice player and had put down the guitar for many years and had intended to pick it back up when I bought this one, but am only now finally starting to play regularly again. And so, this one just came up out of the basement a few days ago. It has been sitting on a stand down there for a while now. Then, this morning, I went to grab what I thought was the empty case for the FG-360 and was pleasantly surprised and reminded that it was actually the case for a 1973 FG-160, which was in it! I had bought it second hand around the same time when I was gung-ho about playing again and completely forgot about it. I purchased it from a younger gentleman who said it was his mother's and had just been sitting in a closet for years., I think I gave $100 for it. It is in excellent condition and probably spent much of its life in the case. I'll include some pics of it as well for fun. Thanks for the site and all of your research! Please feel free to add this FG-360 to your list! Sincerely, Nick McShane Tacoma, WA Our thanks to Nick for contacting us.
