I was first contacted by Ray on June 14, 2017. This FG-360 is the 51st Japanese we know of and number 75 overall.
Hello David:
Just stumbled onto the link to your site. I have a Made in Japan FG360 with SN 40426. It has the tan label and the letters NK stamped on spline just below. It has a two-piece rosewood back and the top seems to be solid spruce from looking at the exposed edge of the sound hole. It has an ebony fingerboard and bridge. I bought it in Louisville KY in 1978 for $375. The shop (name unknown) gave me a break on the price because it had been hanging so long and the wood had darkened. I have replaced the tuning pegs with Grovers and had a luthier replace the original nut and saddle with pieces he formed from bone. I also added an under-bridge pickup. I'm so happy to see someone giving these great guitars their due. I've played many a Martin and Gibson I wouldn't trade mine for, although I recently found a Hummingbird I might pick up. But I'll never get rid of my "D-18 knockoff," as the guitar snobs call it. Note: Ray contacted us again on October 2, 2017 with some pictures of his guitar and to let us know that he has added a new pick-up. The under-bridge piezo unit has been replaced with a Baggs M80. Our thanks to Ray for contacting us.
