Lighthouses of Mexico

Punta Cancun

We visited Mexico for the second time in August 2009.  This was our first trip to the mainland.  We spent a few hours at Cozumel as a port of call on a western Caribbean cruise in February of 2006.  Unfortunately, we weren't looking for lighthouses on that trip.  This time, we were staying at the Riu Cancun, which is an all-inclusive resort in the Hotel Zone of Cancun and this lighthouse was visible from our hotel window.  In fact, some of the shots were taken from our balcony.  It is located on the grounds of the Dreams Resort at Punta Cancún.  This is at the northeast point of the resort area.  In fact, it is the the most eastern point of the region.  This is an operating lighthouse, but the beam was not that strong.  The tower is not open to the public but you could get quite close to it.  There is no identification at the site and web searches identified this lighthouse is a number of ways, but the Dreams Resort website refers to it as Punta Cancun.
