Florida 2014The winter of 2013-2014 was brutal, not just in northern New York, but throughout the country. In fact, we had a bad winter even before it started! An ice storm struck the week-end before Christmas and left us without power for a couple of days. Then the temperatures plummeted to below zero for several days. Then in early January, snow hit with a vengeance. The Tug Hill area got over six feet of snow in 3-1/2 days. We had been planning on going south anyway, but the weather just made it sound like an even better idea. We left Pillar Point on Thursday, January 16. We landed in Silver Spring MD late that afternoon and spent the evening with our good friends, Clark and Heather Burdick. The next morning, we headed out for Myrtle Beach where we spent the next week. On Friday, January 24, we again hit the road, this time for Georgia. We spent the next two days with Ken and Charlene Hanson in Flowery Branch GA. They own the property next to us on Pillar Point. On Sunday, January 26, we hopped down the road to Atlanta where we visited with Michael Shaw, an old friend from the north country who now works in a school district there. By 7 AM the next morning, we were on the road again, this time bound for Florida. We arrived at the home of Pat and Gail O'Connor in Lake Placid FL at about 3 PM. They own the home on the other side of us on the Point. After three days of relaxation, fun and exploring with them, we headed north, but not too far. Our home for the next 30 days is the Victoria Park Resort in Davenport FL. We rented an apartment there and it became our base of operations as we bounced around several places in central Florida.
