New Smyrna Beach, Florida
We have known Walt Doherty since the 70s when he was
Superintendent of School in Edwards. He and his wife, Beth,
live in New Smyrna Beach now, although they travel north from May to
August to stay at their camp on Trout Lake. They came over to
our apartment on Monday, February 17 to visit. We went out to
dinner in Kissimmee and then they went to the Kissimmee South Jam
Session with us that evening.
On Tuesday February 25, we went to their place in
New Smyrna Beach. The four of us went up to Ponce de Leon
Inlet and climbed the lighthouse there. We then returned to
their place and climbed into their boat and traveled to JB's Fish
Camp, a seafood restaurant about a mile from their house. New
Smyrna Beach is an island off the mainland in the Atlantic
Ocean. They live right on the Indian River, which is between
the island and the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway. Since it
was so late after dinner, we stayed overnight. After breakfast
the next day, we returned to Davenport.
