Washington DC
On our way back north, we took a weekend and stayed
with our good friends, Clark and Heather Burdick. The four of
us went into DC on Saturday evening, March 8, and stayed at a Hyatt
Hotel. We strolled around town that evening and then on
Sunday, we visited the National Zoo. After a brunch, we headed
for the National Mall and took in the sights there, including the
Capital, the White House, the WW II monument, the Viet Nam Memorial,
the Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and
the Jefferson Memorial. We spent the evening and overnight at
their home in Maryland and then headed back to the cold and
snow. We were back on Pillar Point by late Monday afternoon. Included
in these pictures are a number of shots of the Viet Nam
Memorial. David had two childhood friends that lived within a
couple of blocks of where he grew up who both had older brothers
killed in action in Nam. We found the names of Joe Huwyler
(section 2E, line 128) and
Jim Jessman (section 45W, line 6) and photographed them. Joe was killed in 1965 and
Jimmie in 1968. Even though they have been gone all these
years, seeing their names on that wall is a very emotional thing.
