Florida 2015

What now is our annual trip to Florida started on Sunday, January 18.  We left after church and made it as far as Fredericksburg, Virginia the first night.  The next night we stayed in Brunswick, Georgia.  On Tuesday morning, we stopped at the Amelia Island Lighthouse, St. John's River Lighthouse and St. John's Lighthouse, all in northern Florida.  We were able to see the Amelia Island Lighthouse but the other two are on the grounds of Naval Station Mayport, so we couldn't get in to see them.  All pictures we took of these are on our Florida Lighthouse page.

We checked into a hotel on St. Augustine Beach on Tuesday, January 20.  We spent most of the next two days riding around historic St. Augustine on the Old Town Trolley.  This is a guided tour where you can jump off and on at any of the 23 stops around town.  We visited many of the attractions in that area.

On Friday January 23, we spent the morning on the grounds of the St. Augustine Lighthouse.  The pictures we took here are also on the Florida Lighthouse page.  We also visited and/or saw several churches.  Pictures of those are on our Florida Churches page.

On the morning of January 27, we traveled an hour or so south of St. Augustine to New Smyrna Beach to the home of Walt & Beth Doherty.  We visited them for a few hours and then headed west to Leesburg where we stayed the next two nights with Keith & Sharon Rose.  David's and Keith's fathers worked together for the city of Watertown and the families were close friends and Keith graduated from high school the year after David did.  We visited briefly with them last year and this year they invited us to stay for a few days so that we could catch up.  We had a great time reconnecting with an old friend.

On January 29, we drove down US 27 to visit with Pat & Gail O'Connor.  They are our next door neighbors at the lake and we spent three days with them last year.  We did the same this year.

Then on Sunday morning, February 1, we headed to Winter Haven where we would spend the next two months.  We got to the apartment, settled in, and then had snacks and a beverage or two and watched the Super Bowl commercials!  We did extensive touring around central Florida over the next two months including a number of day-trips and visits to several old friends.
