America
On Thursday, February 20, we went to an America
concert at the Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida. It was a
great show. We have both really enjoyed their music since they
first hit the scene in 1970. Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley
are two of the original three members. They are both still
very impressive on the guitar. Beckley's keyboard work and
Bunnell's voice still sound like they did in the '70s. They
also have a young man that just joined them in the summer of
2014. His lead guitar work is amazing and he also played
keyboard and banjo during this show. The show was packed and
they played all of their hits plus several other songs. We
left very happy with the performance.
As a special treat, Scott Totten was in the
audience. Totten is the musical director, singer and guitarist
with the touring Beach Boys band. Apparently the Beach Boys
did not have a gig on this date and he was in the area.
Beckley and Bunnell announced that he was in the audience fairly
late in the show. During the encore when they did "Horse
With No Name", he joined them on stage playing guitar. He
even did a short lead riff.
