Flagler College
St. Augustine's Hotel Ponce de Leon was built in
1888 by Henry Flagler. Along with John D. Rockefeller, his
brother William Rockefeller and a few other partners, Flagler was
one of the principals in Standard Oil. He then became a major
player in the development of northeast Florida, building railroads
and hotels. This hotel is now home to Flagler College, a
liberal arts institution founded in 1968.
