Lake Kissimmee State Park

Lake Kissimmee State Park is east of Lake Wales.  There are several miles of walking trails there, and we went there to hike on March 14, but since it was 87 degrees  that afternoon, we cut that part of the outing short.  We probably only walked about a mile.

The part we really enjoy was the "Cow Camp".  This was a small section of the park that emulated an 1870s era cow camp, which was a place that "cow hunters" stayed and penned their cattle.  Back in that era, these camps dotted the Florida landscape from St. Augustine in the northeast to what is now Fort Myers, in the southwestern Gulf Coast.  A man was there playing the role of a cow hunter and taught us all about how life was back then.
