The Schryver Family

Hotel California

We have some good friends, Dick and Connie Kingsbury, that live about 3.5 miles from us on Pillar Point.  They have wintered in Winter Haven for the past three years.  We socialize quite a bit with them at home and get together a few times in the winter in Florida.  On Wednesday, February 24, we drove down to Winter Haven, had dinner with them and then participated in a trivia contest that we used to go to with them in 2015 when we stayed in Winter Haven.

We stayed at their place that night and the next afternoon, we all went into Lakeland where we had dinner and then attended a Hotel California concert.  Hotel California is an Eagles tribute band.  We saw them several years ago in Watertown.  Although they have the same name, we think the personnel has changed.  It wasn't the Eagles, but they did a good job on the songs.  In addition, they were quite impressive instrumentalists.  The drummer and bass player played only those instruments, but the bassist was a really good singer.  The primary singer played acoustic guitar and keyboard.  The other two guitarists were both lead players.  One of them also played mandolin and harmonica and the other one played banjo and pedal steel guitar.  All and all it was a good show.

The warm-up band was a local group from Sebring, Florida.  They got off to a rocky start because the lead singer forgot the words twice to the opening song.  After that, they were actually quite good.  The drummer, bassist and keyboard player were decent.  The lead guitarist was also the lead singer and he was actually quite good.  He handled the guitar very well and had an exceptional voice.
