Hawaii ... Manoa Falls

Mel had to work on Friday, October 31, so Kristin chauffeured us to a couple of places we still wanted to see before flying out this evening.  The first was hiking the trail to Manoa Falls.  The parking area charge was $5.  The trailhead was immediately adjacent to the lot.  The trail led through a rain forest environment and it rained almost the entire walk in and much of the return.  This area was the setting for the filming of parts of the movies Jurassic Park and Lost.

A couple of sources indicated that the hike was 0.8 miles each way.  One source said it was 1.5 miles "to the falls" which would allude to the fact that this was one-way.  We're not sure how far it was, but it seemed like we walked a lot further than 0.8 miles.  Of course, the trip in was almost all uphill!

The waterfall itself was either 100 feet or 150 feet, depending upon which website you paid attention to.  Our guess is closer to the former.  Often when you approach a waterfall, you will see it in advance of getting there, especially one this tall.  In this case, as you got to the top of the trail, you rounded a curve, and there it was!  For the most part, you are looking straight up it, which made it look even taller.
