Our trip to Ireland ...
September 2012
Day 5 ... Friday, September 21
After breakfast at the hotel, we boarded the bus and left
Dublin. We traveled into County Kildare where we visited the
National Stud Farm. This is a facility where
"world-class race horses are bred and trained."
After our stop here, we continued on to Kilkenny, which is
promoted in GoAhead literature as "Ireland's best-preserved
medieval town." While here, we walked a short distance
into the center of town and had lunch at Kyteler's Pub. This
is in a building where Alice Kyteler was supposedly born.
She was the earliest person accused and condemned for witchcraft
in Ireland. She fled the country and was never heard from after
that, but her servant, Petronella de Meath, was flogged and burned
at the stake on November 3, 1324. We then toured the 12th
century Kilkenny Castle.
From there we drove to Waterford where we stayed at the
Granville Hotel for two nights. We had a pint or two at
a pub behind the hotel and then had dinner as a group at the
hotel. We took a stroll around town with Paul, Gail, Bob and
Donna Paquette before returning to the hotel bar.
These photos were taken at the National Stud Farm, in Kilkenny
and Waterford and on the road.
