Our trip to Ireland ... September 2012

Day 14 ... Sunday, September 30

Breakfast at the hotel and then off to Belfast.  It was rainy today.  The bulk of our day was on the bus as we rode through the countryside of Northern Ireland, also known as Ulster.  In Belfast, we had a local guide for a bus tour of the city.  Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland and is home to the shipbuilding docks where the Titanic was constructed.  After the tour, we had lunch at the Crown, a local pub where we had a great meal.  The food was great and the pub was located in a fantastic old building.

Belfast is an interesting city.  Social and political strife has plagued this area for many years.  It has only been during the last 10 or 15 years that things have settled somewhat.  Because of all of the bombing and violence that have occurred, much of the city is newly built.  There are still portions of it where evidence of the past is noticeable.

After lunch, we traveled back to Dublin for our final night in Ireland.  We stayed at the Grand Canal Hotel, which is in a different part of the city from Temple Bar where we stayed the first few nights in Ireland.

on to the last day in Ireland
