2021 Dodge Charger GT
|
In the spring of 2020, we decided that it was time to trade cars.
Our 2015 Impala was undoubtedly one of the best cars we had ever owned
and we still loved it, but it was just time to get something new.
This was not to be. With the COVID pandemic, the car market had
fallen apart. New cars were not being produced and just weren't
available.
We had also decided that we still wanted a
full-sized sedan. We didn't want an SUV, already had a truck,
and weren't comfortable with a smaller sedan with a 4 cylinder engine.
We had to wait.
After getting home from Florida in April 2021,
we started looking. We test drove a Cadillac CT5. They are
a nice car but just is too small for our needs and with the 4 cylinder
motor, just wasn't that smooth. On Saturday, April 30 we made a
trip to Caprara CDJR in Alex Bay. We had our m ind set on a blue
Charger but as we drove into the lot, we saw the only Charger they
had, a Sinamon Stick All wheel drive. We test drove it and liked
it but it wasn't for us. We did not want the AWD and this car
didn't have the option packages we wanted and had a couple we didn't
want.
We sat down with Chris Carlisle and ordered a RWD
GT with the options we wanted, the Plus Group, the Technology Group
and the Interior Appearance Group by Mopar. Unfortunately, with
the way the market still is, a suitable car could not be located ...
anywhere! We ordered one and were told it should arrive in about
six weeks.
That turned out to be fairly accurate. We got
a call around June 9 that it was in New York State. It arrived
at the dealership on the twelfth. Unfortunately, we were on a
family excursion that weekend so we picked it up on Wednesday, June
16.
The car will take some getting used to. It has many
modern feature such as rain sense wipers and automatic high-beam
headlamp control. You don't have to turn the wipers on ... it
senses when it is needed. Same for the high-beams. In
addition to a ton of sensors and automatic detection things it also
has something called lane-sense assist. If you start to veer
across the center line or the line on the shoulder, it steers you back
into your lane!
