2016 Chevrolet Silverado LT Z71, All-star Edition
2016 Chevy SilveradoWithin a few days of coming home from Florida in April 2015, we bought a new car, the 2015 Impala.  Lightning has struck again.  About 36 hours after getting home on April 12, 2016, we were back at Mort Backus and Sons.  Our 2002 Chevy Silverado pick-up was getting very tired and it was time to replace it.  The next day, April 15, we went back up to pick up our 2016 Silverado LT Z71.

Once again, Chevy had some pretty good promotions going and we really needed/wanted a new truck.  Even though this one won't do the towing of the other trucks we had, we still have a couple of boat trailers and utility trailers.
Our truck is known as a double-cab, which Chevy introduced a year or so prior.  It is the same size as the old extended cabs, with a 6-1/2' box, but the back doors open in the traditional direction instead of the "suicide" doors of the former extended cabs.  It is a four door and at first glance, it looks like a crew cab, but the rear doors are a little shorter.

This is a 4WD, with electronic switching.  No more of the moving the floor stick to change the transmission setting.  The color is Autumn Bronze Metallic, which is a "premium" color new for 2016.  Basically a premium color is new, sharp and head-turning and for those reasons, GM charges you more.  Maybe this is where the term premium comes in!  It is very pretty and the Cocoa/Dune interior, which is basically a light brown or tan, really compliments it.

In addition to the amenities that the LT Z71 comes with, this truck has the Integrated Brake Controller (no more trailer brakes under the dash ... it is built into the dash ... and the trailer brakes are integrated with the vehicle's ABS); the L83, 5.3 L V8 Ecotec3 engine; All-star Edition (which gives you such things as 10-way power driver seat adjuster, 6-way on the passenger side, power recline and power lumbar on both sides, dual zone climate control, tilt and telescoping steering column, remote vehicle starter, rear vision camera with 8" screen, rear window defroster and 110 V AC power outlets; 18" all terrain tires.  We also have bucket seats with floor console and wireless cell phone charging.

Within a couple of days of getting this, we arranged through the dealer to have a spray-on liner for the bed, a bedslide and a cap.  We were told it would be in within two or three weeks.  That somehow stretched into six weeks.  Since we were in Hawaii at that point, we scheduled to have it installed a few days after our return.

As it is with most vehicles, the time comes for a replacement.  After we got home from Florida in 2024, we visited with Jordan Backus at Bill Rapp Chevrolet of Ogdensburg, formerly Mort Backus and Sons.  We ordered a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado High Country with the options we wanted.  On Wednesday, August 28, we dropped off the 2016.  They removed the bed slide and installed it in the new truck.  The next day, August 29, David's 73rd birthday, we returned, signed the papers, and drove home in our new vehicle.
