For a while, I had been
wanting an acoustic bass guitar. I had been thinking about a
jumbo body Guild or something along that line. I tried several
guitars out at guitar stores in both Watertown and Syracuse.
One in particular was the Taylor GS Mini. Despite its smaller
size, it stood out above the rest, including a Guild, in both tone
and volume.
Rather than buying it compulsively, I decided to
think it over. After a few days Marcia decided to get me one
for Christmas. Since delivery is so quick these days, I
ordered it on-line rather than driving to get it. That was a
mistake.
It was ordered on a Tuesday and the next day
tracking indicated that it had been shipped. At 6:09 Thursday
morning, it was at the Watertown FedEx facility and was scheduled to
be delivered by the end of the day. Two days ... I was
impressed. However, I got the same message for
the next five delivery days. I tried to cancel it and buy it
locally but was told I couldn't once is was on a truck scheduled for
delivery. It finally did arrive on Thursday, December 19.
It took seven days in Watertown before it finally got delivered.
After five years of owning this bass guitar, I decided that it
sounded like a good idea at the time, but I wasn't really using it.
If didn't project that well and when used, it really needed to be
amplified. On a trip to Syracuse, I stopped in at the Guitar
Center and had them appraise it. Their offer wasn't terrible
so I traded it in on a Gold Tone, 6 string banjitar. It's a 6
string guitar with a banjo body. |

This is from the Taylor website:
Thanks to breakthrough Taylor design, the GS Mini Bass
offers players a remarkably inviting small-scale
acoustic bass that’s compact, lightweight and
ultra-comfortable on the hands. Adding to the popular
heritage of our GS Mini family, this four-string bass
sibling is even more impressive for its ability to
create natural-sounding bass notes despite a
condensed 23-1/2-inch scale length — about 10 inches shorter than
the scale length of a standard bass guitar. Part of the
magic is the custom nylon-core strings (with phosphor
bronze wrap wire) developed with our friends at
D’Addario exclusively for the bass (in fact, no other
strings will work on it). Together with our patented
dual-prong bridge pin design, the bass not only sounds
great but also yields a slinky feel. And with the
condensed fret spacing, playing bass is now physically
easier on anyone’s hands, from kids to bass newbies to
seasoned bass players craving a couch-friendly option.
It’s an inspiring tool to have on hand for writing,
recording demos, and jamming with friends. The bass
comes equipped with our ES-B onboard electronics, along
with a hard bag featuring adjustable backpack straps for
easy portability. |
