Golf Cart Parade 2020
This Christmas marks almost five years since we bought
our home at Tippecanoe Village and the beginning of our
sixth season there. It was, however, the first
time we have actually spent Christmas Day at the park.
Consequently, it was the first chance for us to
participate in one of the annual traditions ... the
Christmas Eve Golf Cart Parade. This year it was
held on December 23 because the forecast for Christmas
Eve was for heavy rain.
Residents decorate their
carts and then drive throughout the park singing
Christmas carols for the residents who were not in the
parade. We equipped our cart with an invertor and
put lights, a star and a moving angel on it. Of
course, we had music. We mounted a speaker and
used an iPad to play Christmas carols.
One of the
residents went all out with his decorations. Our
neighbor Steve has two carts. One sports a '57
Chevy body and the other is his "work truck" ... an
early '50s GMC pick-up. He cut four large reindeer
out of cardboard which he mounted to the sides of his
"truck". He also decorated a trailer which he
towed behind. This looked like a sleigh and in the
trailer was another resident dressed up as Santa Claus.
With all of the lights ... including blinking red lights
on the reindeer, he was the hit of the parade.
We
also have a couple of pictures of the luminaries.
These are placed in almost every driveway on Christmas
Eve. Unfortunately, the rain put some of the
candles out before it got very late in the evening!
