Alapena Falls ... June 3,

Lilianna had a doctor's appointment on
Thursday, June 2 so we did some exploring. We have
been to a couple of the larger waterfalls on the island
on our last visit, but we found out that there are
several other, smaller falls, some of them right in
Honolulu.
The first one we went to was Kapena
Falls. The parking access and the trailhead were
fairly easy to find but unfortunately, we didn't realize
that there are actually two waterfalls within a short
distance of each other on the Nuuanu Stream. We
hiked down the trail, took some pictures and it wasn't
until we got back to the house that we realized that we
were really viewing and photographing Alapena Falls.
We talked with Mel about it and she gave us directions
from another trail so we went back the next day.
It was actually a good thing. I thought I was
starting to get a handle on this photography thing but
taking pictures in a rain forest environment is a
challenge. I wasn't happy with my first pics.
On our return, we hiked in from the
other side of the stream. We got some pics and
video at Alapena and then continued to Kapena.
